"Yahida"

Never again does her mother need to go to bed filled with thoughts and tears because she can’t give her daughter the answer to “why”. Never again does she need to go to bed filled with longing for her own parents who had not wanted to meet her after the birth of "Yahida" because they believed that evil powers rested over the family. After two successful surgeries, the existence and dignity of neither the mother nor Yahida need to be questioned. Every child, and their family, has the right to receive a second chance.

"Mom, why did I get so ugly and disgusting?"  That was was what she used to say when she took a long look at herself in the mirror, every night before falling asleep. The family had desperately sought help 17 times in the past, but with heavy hearts they were turned away with the reply: “Unfortunately, we can’t operate on your child. It’s too risky, and we lack the required expertise and equipment”. One day, the family got word that the Second Chance team would be coming to the city, but neither the father, nor the girl, wanted to go to the hospital to meet us. The father had a hard time believing that the eight hour car ride, which had previously always been taken in vain, this time would lead to any help. The girl was scared to death, and screamed the entire way to the hospital. “I know that you are taking me to the hospital to kill me. You don’t want me because I look so ugly.” However, the small and fragile mother was stubborn and didn’t budge, despite the trouble of managing her husband’s and daughter’s anger, on top of her own emotions and frustrations. The family came, and the little girl got the help that she needed.
